My Mya At One

My baby is a year already!  From newborn to a year old, this truly has been a wonderful journey.

Mya's understanding of language is definitely growing.  She kind of know how to use 'yah,' and 'no'.  If we ask her random things she says "yah," but when we ask her if she wants to go to sleep in chinese, she says, 'no.'  She can also imitate sounds, I love hearing her try to say new words.  Mya can recognize her sisters in pictures, and say, "Jeh Jeh."

Mya's two upper front teeth just broke through her puffy gums.  She is very interested in the food that we are eating, especially food on our plates. There have been a few times, where she has grabbed food off our plates when we're not looking, and stuff it in her mouth.  She has knocked a cereal bowl over, and started eating the cereal off the floor.  And one time, she grabbed a roasted cauliflower my plate, and started munching on it.

Mya enjoys trying new foods.  She is comfortable with Baby Mum Mums, graduate puffs, plain cheerios, congee, and steamed veggies.  She prefers to feed herself, and sometimes it frustrates her when we try to feed her yogurt or congee.

We just transitioned Mya to regular milk.  She didn't like the first bottle, and she woke up a few times during the night, so we weren't sure if it was due to teething or the milk, but by the next morning she took the whole bottle.  So, goodbye to expensive formula, phew!  The next step is to wean her off the bottle, and get her onto sippy cups.

Mya is a very active baby.  She is quick at crawling, and she can be seen pushing her legs all the way up as if she was getting up to walk.  She LOVES climbing the stairs, so the baby gates are all up.  She can't climb down, but she is very capable climbing up.  As she goes up, she likes to look back and flash a huge smile of triumph.  Mya also likes to crawl to the shoes, and play with them.  And, when the front door is open, she crawls as quickly as she can to go outside.

Mya is a little more daring and adventurous = we need to watch her more. She also likes to crawl in to the bathroom, and head for the toilet!  She has been caught playing with toilet water!  Yuck!  She also likes to crawl towards the oven, and play near the stove.  The more we pull her away, the more determined she is. This girl looks for trouble, so we need to look out for her a lot more.

Mya is always chasing the girls, looking to be part of the fun.  In turn, the girls will pick her up and try to turn her away.  Sometimes, they will include her.  Usually, this involves Mya being the baby, and trying to cover her, and block her with blankets and toys.  When she is in her chair, she is part of the audience in their performances, or riding in their pretend train, or bus.

Look out world, Mya is ready to explore you!  We love you, birthday girl!

Happy First Little One!
